The observer, when he seems to himself to be observing a stone, is really, if
physics is to be believed, observing the effects of the stone upon himself.
I love photos of stones like this, Cait. I sometimes wander around the shore below my brother's house in the Outer Hebrides and just spend hours (well perhaps not hours but you know what I mean) photographing different groups of pebbles and stones.
